Dodd Wood
Dodd Wood is a fantastic place to get some amazing views of the northern Lake District. See the magnificent Bassenthwaite ospreys from the specially designed viewpoints from April to September. You may also see red squirrels at the feeding station in the wood throughout the year.
Watch Tree Nature Reserve
With wide open spaces, miles of tracks and trails and stunning woodlands and views over the Solway Firth. We have wetlands with two bird hides and some fantastic woodlands to explore. From quiet and peaceful walks and our relaxing elemental garden to the more energy demanding orienteering courses and cycle routes there is something for everyone.
St Bees Head
The RSPB nature reserve supports northwest England’s only cliff-nesting seabird colony. Three viewing points give you superb views of the colony and on a clear day you can see the Isle of Man across the sea. In the summer there are colonies of nesting black guillemots on the cliffs of Fleswick bay.
In the Lake district you are spoilt for choice when it comes to photography with some amazing views and great light and atmospheric conditions. There are so many places to see it’s hard to select a few but you may want to check out these:
Friars Crag
On the shores of Derwent water, and provides an excellent view over Derwent Water and Borrowdale..
Wastwater
Wastwater lies in Wasdale in the west of the National Park. The view takes in the lake with the mountains of Yewbarrow, Great Gable and Lingmell behind.
Buttermere
Buttermere offers one of the best round-the-lake walks in The Lakes. You can snap stunning photos no matter what the season. The line of pine trees at the upper end of the lake have become iconic, as has the lonely birch tree at the village end of the lake.r.
Aira Force
If you want to photograph a waterfall, you can’t go wrong at Aira Force above Ullswater, a 20-metre cascade pouring through a narrow gorge below a stone arch bridge.
